Sherington Parish Council have applied on behalf of the village to take part in the “MK Can” attempt to break the Guinness world record for the longest continuous line of canned food items on behalf of the MK Food Bank.
The event, which takes place on Mon 16 Oct, is an effort to create a line of cans 10 Kilometres long – yes TEN KILOMETRES!!
That sounds like a lot of cans, because it is – it’s approx 132,000 cans in fact, and it’s enough to cover MK Food Bank’s canned goods needs for half a year.
The opportunity to take part is being offered to Parish Councils, Businesses, Clubs and Groups etc across the whole of MK in allocations of “sections”, each 25 metres long. Each section should take approx 350 cans to fill.
SPC are applying for the maximum allocation of 2 sections – which means we’ll need to collect and deliver about 700 cans. We’re hoping to engage with clubs, groups, organisations, businesses and individuals throughout the village, and we’re very confident we can achieve our target.
We’ll also need volunteers to help deliver and line up the cans in our section(s). We already have some very kind offers of transport for the cans on the day, so that part is covered. We also have another very kind and invaluable offer from Squirrel Stores to act as a collection point for our donated cans, and to store them until the day.
We’ll be making contact with groups and clubs to ask if they’d like to be a part of the Sherington effort, but please keep an eye on the natter, FB etc if you’d like to take part – be it volunteering to help, or donating cans. Thanks in advance for your support. There’s no doubt that this lovely village can easily reach (and probably exceed) our target of 700 donated cans. Any cans that are over those required to fill our two sections will be delivered by SPC direct to the food bank, so anything you donate WILL go to the charity.
