Art needs to add value to landscape and, as we have seen with the (functional) installation, the mound, at the top of Chicheley Hill, has to involve low maintenance approaches with functionality. This approach makes it appealing for people to use and stop the abuse we find all too prevalent.
Given the development this sum of money is linked to, an extension of pedestrian access and an art trail from The Knoll to Gun Lane and encouraging more of us to beat the bounds of the village taking in the public rights of way, slowing the traffic seeking to short cut through the village.
How? Visual engagement and related art work to actively change the behaviour of through commuters (and those more at home in their cars than walking around the village). Fit this seasonal updates – the involvement of the school in country life regarding agriculture – as was and how it must be if we are all to appreciate good food and beautiful countryside.
PS – do not let spellcheck loss Croft’s End – another example of lost heritage where art can intersect with historical, geographical and social learning and development.
